Project Details

Offshore wind is a reliable source of renewable energy and has been growing rapidly in the recent years as many major cities are located in close proximity to coastlines. Global offshore wind installed capacity was ~54 GW in 2021 and is expected to reach ~380 GW by 2030. Developing offshore wind in deeper waters requires floating wind turbines moored to the seabed using anchors. Drag anchors are considered a promising option due to their low cost, high efficiency and quick installation. The aim of this project is to study the suitability of deploying drag anchors as permanent moorings for future floating offshore wind developments.
