Translational research for buildings and infrastructure: Fundamental, Innovation and Collaboration

The Future Construction Technology (FCT) group undertakes both fundamental and applied research for solving current and future problems related to the construction sector. We have gained national and international recognition for our expertise in the development of effective and sustainable solutions for buildings and infrastructure. Our close collaboration with industry and government organisations enables us to translate our research into commercially viable products in these fields.

The goal of the FCT group is to develop engineering and technological solutions that increase the performance, efficiency, and sustainability of our future buildings and infrastructure. Our translational research contributes to the enhancement of quality, efficiency, and productivity as well as the reduction of cost and environmental footprint of the construction sector. The broad research areas of the FCT include:

  • Low-carbon construction materials
  • Advanced structural systems
  • Prefabricated, modular construction
  • Integrated digital engineering for design, manufacturing and assembly
  • Novel materials for extreme loads (blast and impact)
  • Life cycle performance and decarbonisation technologies
