The project consists of five phases: policy review, stakeholder workshop, user focus groups, expert interviews, and feedback emails.
1. Policy Review
We analysed state-level EV strategies and action plans, and Victoria-specific standards and legislation relevant to EV charging for renters and multi-unit dwelling residents. Our policy review paper is available in the Australasian Transport Research Forum 2024 proceedings: Evaluation of Australian electric vehicle charging policies through a social justice perspective
2. Stakeholder workshop
We organised a stakeholder workshop with 26 participants from charging solution providers, consumer groups, strata management, peak bodies, electric utility service providers, and government organisations last June 12, 2024. Our report on the stakeholder workshop is available here: Stakeholder workshop report
3. User focus groups
We conducted seven focus group discussions with renters and multi-unit dwelling residents in Victoria between July to August 2024. Using this data, we explored how renters and multi-unit dwelling residents navigate limited charging access, including impacts on the way their travel with EVs. Our peer-reviewed paper is published in the Journal of Transport Geography: Electric vehicle charging dissonance: Exploring how renters and multi-unit dwelling residents navigate limited charging access
4. Expert interviews
We interviewed 18 experts from strata management, consumer groups, peak bodies, charging solution providers, government organisations, electric utility service providers, and insurance companies last March to April 2025. Our paper mapping the challenges, root causes, and solutions to residential EV charging in rentals and multi-unit dwellings is currently being finalised and will available here once published.
5. Feedback emails
We validated our research outputs through email correspondences with the interviewed experts.
